Upswing is a growth-stage company with proven product and market traction that is ready to scale, establish our brand more widely as we go up market, optimize our attribution model to provide a greater number of MQL to our sales team, and firmly establish ourselves as thought leaders in student engagement and retention. 


Upswing’s Director of Marketing will recruit, lead, and grow the marketing team to target, reach, and convert leads to qualified sales opportunities. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit that is excited to drive growth, who is a thoughtful risk taker focused on developing initiatives that will make a big impact.The key to this role’s success is the ability to put the people, systems, and processes in place to ensure Upswing’s ability to scale. This is a hands-on role with the ability to choose the majority of your team over time. 

Key Objectives

Build and lead a best-in-class team

  • Hire and manage 2-3 headcount in the first year
  • Mentor each team member into areas of specialization that support Upswing’s growth, brand recognition, and thought leadership

Optimize the Marketing Stack and Systems

  • Evaluate and optimize marketing systems and processes to identify areas for improvement, and improved ROI
  • Review, maintain and improve the attribution model
  • Regularly report on the impact of each lead source, campaign, and event in aggregate and by individual lead source 
  • Set the annual Marketing budget and execute within that budget
  • Manage a reporting dashboard that measures each area of the above 


  • Create and execute marketing annual communications plan
  • Segment prospects for effective marketing campaigns
  • On an annual basis, calculate and generate the number of leads in the top of the funnel to achieve the new revenue goals
  • Drive broader client product adoption by promoting use cases of current clients and Upswing products, and through up-sell campaigns

Strengthen the Upswing Brand

  • Raise awareness the Upswing brand through webinars, social media, press releases, improved SEO/SEM, retargeting, and digital ad campaigns
  • Convert the student engagement data gathered from our clients into narratives that win new clients and upsell current clients
  • Create dynamic virtual events for prospective clients and end users that drive qualified  leads 
  • Manage the creation and dissemination of marketing materials that promote the Upswing brand, story, impact, and mission
  • Manage the relationship with outsourced PR firm and other contractors as needed
